Just want to write this morning about seeing a few kids of a very young age getting cells phones and iPads this past Christmas from Santa. I have these tools and use them myself quite often. I am even writing this post on the 78′ Soapbox this morning on my iPhone while waiting at the Doctor’s office.

This is a terrific letter I hope everyone gets the opportunity to read. You have a few people in charge at the USTA who are only now beginning to realize they screwed up with this mandate. Their real problem now is trying to figure out a graceful return to what was before a good system.
Wayne Bryan in blue and Chris in black–check it out!
One of the best tennis coaches I have ever known and learned from was Coach Jim Leighton of Wake Forest University and the Old Town Club in Winston Salem, N.C. In the early days, as legend has it, on any given Sunday you could find Dennis Van Der Meer or Vic Braden sitting in the shop discussing tennis technique and strategies with Coach Leighton. I do not know if this is true or not but he was one heck of a coach.
Over all the years I have watched tennis I have to say there have been people who serve very hard and then there are those who can serve hard and do it well under pressure when the chips are down. Ultimately, it is important to make the serve in the court and start the point–that is for sure.
I think it is ok to get angry on the court. Getting angry shows you are a competitor. But like many other sports you have a very small window of time in tennis to spend angry. In tennis there is no time for “History Majors”. So get angry but get over it real quick and begin thinking about the next point and how you are going to approach it in a winning manner.
Greg Hoffman is a kid who just got an iPhone from his parents. His mom, Janell Hoffman, wrote these [slightly edited] rules for its use:
Here are my picks for “suggested resolutions” the USTA could adopt going forward into 2013. I read these in this order on the We Coach Tennis radio show on December 30th, 2012. Hope somebody was listening. If not, now I have written them out so they might be better understood.
Wayne is in blue and Kurt in Black.
“You’re the best and most likeable adversary I have ever had” That’s quite a compliment coming from you. Ha. If the shoe fits, you gotta wear it. Read more…
And Happy New Year and hope you and your family have had a wonderful Holiday Season . . .Have received a few e mails, texts and calls from coaches across the country lately saying that Kurt Kamperman is saying Coach Bryan only feels there are 1,000 kids in the US who should be playing with regulations tennis balls. I would like to make the record crystal clear here:
