Earlier on this site Coach Robert Lansdorp responded to a post from Dr. Ray Brown entitled “The Fall Of American Tennis”. In it Robert took issue with the idea that “now” it is the “parents”. I am sure he is as tired of all the different voices chiming with a different reason for failure as anyone else. In his response he explained it is much more the fault of the coaching today here in the USA than it is the parents. He places the blame squarely on the Player Development system the USTA has here in the USA.

The following is the first of two fantastic emails penned by Dr. Ray Brown. This first one is an editorial he wrote about the new ROG or TAUT format set up by the ITF and USTA.
Dr. Brown is a tennis coach located in Houston, TX. This weekend in Georgia proved to have some of the best weather in all of 2013 to date. It also proved to be one of the busiest weekends for USTA junior tennis tournaments in the Atlanta Metro area. Coachjpweber.com did a survey and can provide a cross section view of how the 10 And Under tournaments are fairing in the Atlanta metro market.
I had the opportunity to finally meet the USTA’s new President–Dave Haggerty–yesterday afternoon at the Atlanta “Listening Session” the USTA held in conjunction with the Southern Annual Meetings. Read more…
This is a terrific letter I hope everyone gets the opportunity to read. You have a few people in charge at the USTA who are only now beginning to realize they screwed up with this mandate. Their real problem now is trying to figure out a graceful return to what was before a good system.
Wayne Bryan in blue and Chris in black–check it out!

“You’re the best and most likeable adversary I have ever had” That’s quite a compliment coming from you. Ha. If the shoe fits, you gotta wear it. Read more…
And Happy New Year and hope you and your family have had a wonderful Holiday Season . . .Have received a few e mails, texts and calls from coaches across the country lately saying that Kurt Kamperman is saying Coach Bryan only feels there are 1,000 kids in the US who should be playing with regulations tennis balls. I would like to make the record crystal clear here:
Another exchange between Lawrence Roddick and Wayne Bryan regarding the 10 and Under Mandate. It appears the USTA is really digging in it’s heels on the matter. All over the globe the mandate has been met with resistance from knowledgable coaches and in the USA there is no exception to this. I cannot find 1 out of 10 I speak to who think the mandate is a good idea. Below is Roddick in black and Wayne Bryan is in blue. Read more…
Here is another great correspondence between Blanche Roddick and Wayne Bryan regarding the 10 and Under mandate. To my way of thinking this is exactly as they describe it. It is sooooooooooo stupid to have this thing brought in as a mandate. But they over reached when they put it in to play. They told schools, parks and clubs this is the mandate and We Are Sticking To It! We now know there was no true and real research done regarding the mandate and it was an idea hatched from ITF and USTA people who could not coach their way out of a brown paper bag.
