We Coach TENNIS — December 23rd, 2012

Tonight we have a very special guest with Jerry Baskin coming on the show. As humble as they come Jerry Baskin has been coaching tennis in the Atlanta area for close to 40 years. During this time period Jerry has been able to help numerous junior tennis players achieve a level of excellence unparalleled in the Southern Section of the USTA and perhaps even on a National level.

A native of Murfreesboro, TN., Jerry coaches out of the Olde Town Racquet Club located in Marietta, GA. His simple, yet effective ways have been the thing of legend in the Southern section for many, many years. Several guests come on the show to explain what makes Coach Baskin such a unique mentor in many ways. UGA Head Men’s Tennis Coach, Manny Diaz explains how when he finds himself recruiting at a tournament he will see Coach Baskin usually first in the morning and the last to leave in the evening. Several other guests come on to explain how it is Jerry’s ability to care for the players that makes him such an exceptional coach. Please listen in as Coach Baskin covers a variety of topics pertinent to the tennis world today.

I found it particularly interesting to hear Jerry discuss the TAUT initiative and the college tennis game. He pulled very few punches and landed a few knock out blows in his assessment of the current state of tennis in the USA.
